Here's some guidelines I wanted to put up for RP events. Derek and I discussed this the other day and I wanted to put out some simple things so that there's no mass confusion or... hard feelings.
When creating an event: Try to run it by me or Derek. Likely I'll be handling the events, and will plan them out as I can. Holding mini-events is great, but as -long- as they don't trample over any other events I have going on. One of the things that can be difficult is planning an event and people try to make something along side that one, and it gets swallowed up by this other event. It also helps me integrate things as we need to---so if people want to see one sort of event over another, I have an idea of where we need to go.
Types of events: Avoid, avoid avoid, AVOID making events centering around one person. Small RP centered around it is cool... but making something for the whole guild that centers around one person creates some issues---such as hurt feelings, a general importance placed on this character, and seeming favoritism. I'd prefer most events be guild-centric, rather than "X has to defeat y!" or some other thing that revolves around one player. Events should be larger scale, where as single instances of Rp could be around such things.
These are just a couple things. I'm putting them in place at the moment and this topic is generally a placeholder. I'm not saying I want to micro-manage every RP that happens, but when we do events I'd like that to be something that's run by either myself or Derek so we can put in our two cents. That way we don't run into problems we've all faced in the past with RP.
Thanks!
