Alright guys, I've decided to make some rules real quick, and let me know what you think. It's now a work in progress, so any and all input is welcome.
1. No hostile acts to fellow guildies whatsoever.
Just so that this isn't misconstrued to be something like "Don't argue" or anything equally as minute, this is in regards to player killing and stealing. Though I don't quite condone people making unprotected farms, if for whatever reason a fellow guildy decides to make one don't steal their things. Along with that, killing someone in our guild for no reason (In other words, if they ask you to so they can serve jail time or something) isn't going to be tolerated. Breaking this first rule will result in a firm warning first---then second, you'll be kicked from the guild and banned from the forums.
2. Mitigate Jail Time/Crimes.
I won't lie. We aren't the most... sparklepaladin guild. We are a group of rough-neck mercenaries that are trying to squeek out a living. Our bar is somewhat salacious and seedy. We'll probably force the workers of the bar to wear bikinis and not much else. We aren't quite good guys. BUT, we also should keep a somewhat decent reputation. Meaning, if I'm getting killed because a few people get us on a KoS list for screwing around and making other players lives hell... then I'm not gonna be too happy and will find out who was doing so. This will result in a warning---then the same as above, a boot from the guild and a ban from the forums.
The second part of this is jail time. While it's not exactly punishable---I'd be suprised if we all avoided jail all the time---it's something I'd rather people try to avoid on a whole. Petty crimes or killing jerks will happen. I've done it before, so I see no reason to not keep doing it, however going full out and getting nothing but infamy points isn't going to be great either. Try not to net us a huge bad reputation---eventually I'd like people to pay us to protect them and their stuff, and that's hard to do if people mistrust you.
3. Respect Alliances.
This is a big, big rule. If I'm going to set up alliances with bigger groups, and expect them to pay us for protection then we've got to -hold to it-. Meaning, we cannot -kill- or -steal- from them at ALL. This is a non-negotiable rule here, and the reason is because again, when it comes to being mercenaries it's all about our image. We have to hold true to the fact that we will respect and honor our bonds that we've created, and not stab them in the back.
In this situation, honestly... if you break it, I'm going to have a talk with the other guild we've allied with. I'll discuss with them specifically about you, and find out what the situation was, and how I can fix it. To be honest, this rule here, the punishment will be more up to those you've wronged. If it's something fixable I'll fix it, and do what they've asked me to do to punish you. If we have to pay money or something it will be coming from your pocket, not the guild's. We protect our members as long as they adhere to the rules I've set.
Don't mistake this for me saying another guild's word will take over yours. It won't. I'll listen to your side, and gather information on everything. These situations are very touchy, but I'll look at it from an impartial standpoint and make my own decisions based on it.
However, if it becomes a consistent thing, you will be booted from the guild and banned from the forums for it.
4. Trolling/Being combative.
Those that know me, know I have decent tolerance for things. However, when pestered long enough I can get irritated fast---fast enough to where it'll catch people off guard because I'll be nice up to that point. Don't be scared by this, as I've said I'm generally tolerant, and I'm not the only one involved with the management of the guild. However, if you constantly try to irk people or do things just to get under their skin... well, there will be issues. This one is relatively minor in the scope of the rest of the rules, if only because at times personalities can clash.
My goal with this one is to talk to said person, and parties involved. Come up with some resolutions, try to get some mindsets to click, and get a good fellowship going with it. I want the guild to really merge well and work together, so this sort of thing is pivitol. Getting along 100% of the time won't happen, but working past issues and discussing things is how a group can be healthy.
However, if people insist on being stubborn, immutable, and unchangeable then the phrase "it's jut who I am!" will only last so long. No one wants to put up with a jerk, so you'll go from getting a warning, to a final warning, to a kick and a ban. I hate to outline it that way, but this is a situation where we'd really work with people to get them integrated into the group. This won't be a situation where we bully people, we will try -everything- to get you included and your wants and needs met.
5. Unique situations.
Boy this is a hard one to talk about and enforce. There's no possible way for me to make rules that encompass every scenario. Not only that, it'd be a waste of time to go through every single detail. The best I can do is this short list of "For sure" things that'd get you in trouble, whether it be instant or over time.
This rule basically is the "Case by case" basis rule. When instances pop up that we feel will need enforcement, we'll evaluate the situation, discuss it as officers and the like, and determine what course of action to take. We're all very friendly, so likely we'll hear things out and try to work out the best solution, rather than going right for punishment and general discourse. Likely, the worst that happens in most situations is we talk to you, say "Hey buddy! X has been brought to my attention, can I talk to you?" and get your feelings on the matter, as well give you our input for what needs to be done.
From there, we'd likely get a bit sterner. Tell you our concerns again, and evaluate if it's a circumstance of unfortunate events or if it's you doing it to yourself---then the third step is the one we hate--- the boot and ban. We'll do everything possible to avoid the final step here, and it'd be a long, hard road to get to that... but if it's the only solution it's the only solution.
I honestly hope I never have to boot people from the guild. I love the group we've got going now, and I think these rules are wholly unnecessary, however as we grow we'll need -some- outline for things. From here too, we need to start discussing things like "Alliances" and "Jobs" to protect people. When it comes to being a merc, we -need- to get geared, and we -need- to get a reputation. Those are things for another topic I'll likely make---but right now it makes some of these rules appear to be pointless. It -will- be addressed!
